Registration of
domestic partnership (pareja de hecho) with a foreigner

If you have a sentimental relationship with another person in Spain and you live with him/her, you can register as a domestic partner with a foreigner. A domestic partnership is a formal relationship between two people who live together and maintain an affective relationship in a stable manner, similar to that of a marriage, but without being married.

If the domestic partnership is between a foreign person and a Spanish citizen or a citizen of another country of the European Union. The foreign person can access the residence permit by means of the European Union citizen’s family card, among others.

In Catalonia it is necessary to register a domestic partnership with a foreigner:

• Have a joint census registration for 3 months (or have children in common).
• To be able to prove that you have a stable relationship (through photographs).
• Neither member has to be married or have other domestic partners.
• To have two testimonies for the day of the appointment in front of the notary.
